Back in August of 2020, I set out a goal to read 1,000 books. This was an inspiration taken from someone else’s bucket list, with the motive to actively read. I too wanted to use this as encouragement to expand my knowledge and perspective, and set-out on the Quest.
To make the Quest seem less overwhelming, I divided it up into a Quest series, where the first checkpoint is reading 100 books.
I’ve also set-up some requirements for this series:
Hard Requirements
- The books only count as the 1,000 Book series if they have been read after the Quest start date(August 1st, 2020)
- All books must be cataloged(Using GoodReads for this)
- The book must have a 50-page minimum to count(This is to discourage reading short, easy books)
- No matter the length or feelings of the book, if 50 pages have been read, that book must now be completed as part of the 1,000 book series(This is to encourage commitment!)
- Graphic novels and manga are okay, but comic strip collections do not count(This is to encourage reading books that are intended more for a long-form narrative/commentary instead of primarily gag-material)
Soft Requirements
- Do not avoid reading a book because you may have negative opinions on the author/subject. (A point for this project is to step out of your comfort zone and broaden your perspective)
- If someone lends you a book, that book must be read. (Someone has feelings strong enough to share this book’s material, so use this as an opportunity to learn more about subjects they value)
