I always thought lockpicking was one of those specialized skills that take a high level of patience to learn. Turns out, it can be ridiculously simple. Not to dismiss pro lockpickers here. Mastering lockpicking takes an exceptionally higher level of skill than learning to lockpick.
A good locking picking set for beginners can be bought for as cheap as $30. Learning how to use it to pick your first actual lock can be accomplished in little less than an hour. When I got comfortable doing it, it only took about a minute to pick my padlocks at home. I was so surprised by how easy it was to learn to break open a padlock, that the first thing I did was replace all of my fast-to-pick locks with much more secure ones.
Lockpicking can be a very fun and challenging hobby. If you are interested in lockpicking and taking your skill up to master rogue levels, I would also recommend joining an online lockpicking community like r/lockpicking.
